Welcome to the Power Over Pain Action Network

The Power Over Pain (POP) Action Network is a developing grassroots network of volunteers who are people with pain, caregivers, and healthcare providers.

Vision: Americans will understand they have a right to timely pain management and access to effective pain relief.

Our Overall Goal: Transform pain care in America through the following ACTIONS:

  • Raise public awareness

  • Promote the best pain policy, legislation and practice

  • Advance national and state-based media and educational efforts

  • Inform, motivate, and harness the millions of voices of people affected by pain to develop a nationwide movement of pain care advocates

Barriers to Pain Care: While most painful conditions can be relieved with proper treatment, many people in pain and their healthcare providers face a wide range of barriers preventing proper pain management. See APF’s Talking Points for Pain Care Advocacy.

The Bottom Line: People in pain have a right to timely, appropriate pain care.

76.5 million Americans suffer pain; the majority do not receive appropriate care.

NOW is the time to demand change. Join the movement!

POP Action Network Background: The POP Action Network was built on the Power Over Pain Campaign. Click here for more information on the campaign. Please also see the campaign's History, Vision, Purpose and Goals.

POP Action Network Activities: The Network engages in outreach activities such as interviews with the media, community presentations, and meeting with Congressional Representatives and other officials. APF member advocates are speaking out to improve pain management, so others do not have to needlessly suffer! The POP Action Manual provides instruction for anyone wanting to get involved in POP activities.

Network Leadership Structure: The Network leadership is state-based, and structured as teams with at least one person with pain or caregiver and one healthcare professional leader per state. The goal is to have between two and four leaders in every state. Leaders of the POP Action Network serve as point people for POP Activities in their state and coordinate their efforts with organizations and individual advocates in their state.
